My column on Monday about smoking got me a great deal of correspondence. Several readers have written to tell me that I was too compassionate to addicted to nicotine.

My taxes and fees

"If smokers want to be sick, I do not want to take my tax they seek care," wrote me Denis Côté.

"Smokers know they may die of cancer, but before dying, they will be treated in the health care system that supports me financially with my taxes," he writes.

We would think that with the election of Barack Obama, U.S. Republicans have learned their lesson and changed the disk.

They have stopped supplying the paranoid ravings of the extremists that plague their ranks to provide a more intelligent discourse, speaking more to reason than emotion.

But no.

An irresponsible speech

As I write these lines, it is not known yet whether the shooting that left six dead in Arizona on Saturday (and which nearly cost the life of the Parliamentary Democratic Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head) was a political gesture.

The dignity of the believer:
An illusion?

Some movies show the human misery, The Passion of Christ and Spartacus to name a few. They remind me of that period, shortly before the end of the Roman Empire, the Romans threw the Christians in the Colosseum to feed the lions. Not only are these traitors in Rome continued to defy the order and with their beliefs, despite their plight, but more and more fans subscribed to their religion. "Religious belief is it a consolation for the weak?" The sick, the poor and unfortunate they drew their courage against Rome with a promise of a better world after death? Even today, many people continued to keep the faith when everything goes wrong. The Bible also reveals that human beings have been created in respect of life. Just as valid as the theory of evolution, it remains inécartable.

Now, what concept is most valid? Make a brief return. Freud believed that religion is a sedative for humans, who did not experience the difficulties that life offered him. In conclusion, I am, after all, agree with Freud who think religion is a sedative for the people. Religion provides the contrary, explanations of the mysteries of life. It sends fine values and social systems parties such as schools, hospitals and charity. Of course, the religious zeal has had unfortunate consequences, including the genocide of Native Americans or the enslavement of Africans. However, properly used, maybe that religious beliefs could restore hope and zest for life to suicide, often atheists, Quebec. Our statistics on suicide seem to correspond well with the release of religion from our government. Now, if a new religion should be adopted that would best meet the human needs? Fanatics from a banned Islamic hate group have launched a nationwide poster campaign denouncing Christmas as evil.

Organisers plan to put up thousands of placards around the UK claiming the season of goodwill is responsible for rape, teenage pregnancies, abortion, promiscuity, crime and paedophilia.

They hope the campaign will help 'destroy Christmas' in this country and lead to Britons converting to Islam instead.

Labour MP and anti racist campaigner Jim Fitzpatrick branded the posters 'extremely offensive' and demanded they were immediately ripped down.

The placards, which have already appeared in parts of London, feature an apparently festive scene with an image of the Star of Bethlehem over a Christmas tree.

But under a banner announcing 'the evils of Christmas' it features a message mocking the song the 12 Days of Christmas.

It reads: 'On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me an STD (sexually transmitted disease).

'On the second day debt, on the third rape, the fourth teenage pregnancies and then there was abortion.'

According to the posters, Christmas is also to responsible for paganism, domestic violence, homelessness, vandalism, alcohol and drugs.

Another offence of Christmas, it proclaims, is 'claiming God has a son'.

The bottom of the poster declares: 'In Islam we are protected from all of these evils. We have marriage, family, honour, dignity, security, rights for man, woman and child.'

The campaign's organiser is 27-year-old Abu Rumaysah, who once called for Sharia Law in Britain at a press conference held by hate preacher leader Anjem Choudary, the leader of militant group Islam4UK.

Former Home Secretary Alan Johnson banned Islam4UK group earlier this year, making it a criminal offence to be a member, after it threatened to protest at Wootton Bassett, the town where Britain honours its war dead.

Mr Rumaysah told the Mail that he was unconcerned about offending Christians.

He said: 'Christmas is a lie and as Muslims it is our duty to attack it.

'But our main attack is on the fruits of Christmas, things like alcohol abuse and promiscuity that increase during Christmas and all the other evils these lead to such as abortion, domestic violence and crime.

'We hope that out campaign will make people realise that Islam is the only way to avoid this and convert.'

Mr Rumaysah, who said his campaign was not linked to any group, boasted that the posters would be put up in cities around the country, including London, Birmingham and Cardiff.

The campaign was highlighted by volunteers from a charity which distributes food and presents to pensioners and the lonely at Christmas.

Sister Christine Frost, founder of the East London Neighbours in Poplar charity, said: 'The more posters I saw, the more angry I got.

'Someone is stirring hatred which leaves the road open to revenge attacks or petrol bombs through letter-boxes.

'I told the Mayor we are all scared.

'If we said such things about Muslims, we'd all be hanging from lamp-posts.

'The posters appear to be professionally printed'.

Poplar and Limehouse MP Mr Fitzpatrick said: 'These posters are extremely offensive and have upset a lot of people - that's why we jumped on it and asked the council to remove them.

'Sister Christine is rooted in the community and doesn't take offence lightly.

'But these hate posters really upset her. Christmas is close to her belief.'

A Met Police spokesman said they had received complaints and were investigating.

He said: 'We are investigating allegations of religious hate crime in Tower Hamlets following complaints about posters displayed in and around the Mile End area.'

Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman said the posters had 'upset and antagonised many residents'.

He added: 'The messages on these posters are offensive and do not reflect the views of the Council or the vast majority of residents.

The reason for my ouster? I spoke in January 2007 against the reasonable accommodation on religious grounds because it threatened the gender equality, equality Canadian / immigrant, equality practicing / non practicing, equal to the origin an immigrant, because 22% of Canadians are of ethnic origin, and in these 22% of immigrants, 79% have fled their country to get away from religious fundamentalism, and 89% have fled their country to take shelter from the dictatorship.

Is it normal to seek the integration of secularism in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms? Of course there is, especially with 4 of 5 immigrants who want to know nothing to religious fundamentalists. In all the left parties on the planet, there is a motion claiming that the state is secular. All the left parties? This week, everyone took the pastor of Florida, Terry Jones, a fool because he wanted to make a bonfire in his own way to burn Qur'an on the morning of Sept. 11, to meet hatred of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, allegedly by Muslim fanatics. Let's play devil's advocate for a brief moment.

How many books have been burned by the Nazis? Nobody knows. How many Bibles have been burned by the Romans? Nobody knows. How manuscripts of Maya and Incas were destroyed by Spanish Conquistadors? Nobody knows.

They say that they are Muslims who have returned to the Twin Towers, as they say the fact that ten million American Indians were exterminated by the big bad Canadian who wanted to Christianize the Aboriginal people during 20th century, dis we burn the Bible? No, the Indians in both Canada and Peru have converted to Christianity, they are pretty weak for that and it's not my problem.

Introduction

We call this approach intellectual rationalism and it will generate great enthusiasm for a class of thinkers. Rationalism leads the thinker to look for certainties that can be explained rationally beyond a reasonable doubt, whereas in past centuries, thinkers often sought by both the use of reason as other tools, truths revealed type interpretation.

For Cartesian rationalism, nature is composed only of matter and it works like a machine, that is to say that the universe is strictly governed by mechanical forces which are also subject to the laws of reason. We can say that the reason seems to have taken possession of everything in the universe as conceived by the rationalists. They also discover that the laws of nature can be expressed in mathematical language. In other words, we realize that the material and mechanical forces at play in nature are measurable. The modern project

b) The unity of science: by the common use of mathematics, modern scientists consider science as a tree. Thus, since the sciences share the same language, we come to imagine a hierarchy of knowledge and science, mathematics form the core which is connected with various branches of science.

c) Multiple advances and inventions: with the systematic observation and rigorous work, we see many important theoretical discoveries that often lead to various practical inventions designed to improve the lot of the human condition. Here is embodied the idea of the modern project, that of a "Progress Liberator". In this context, efficiency and productivity values are extremely positive. The modern thinkers did not conceive the dehumanizing side often attributed to these values today.

Do not forget that it is the rigorous use of reason which alone can make this progress possible liberator. It now uses the concept of instrumental rationality to describe this attitude of mind which is exclusively oriented towards the development techno.

Conclusion

Finally, modernity will transform the lives of Western policy. Since all are able to use their reason, everyone should have the right to speak and must share the reigns of power. The moderns are thus gradually try to replace the forms of power based on violence and arbitrariness by democracy.

Many citizens living in the Lessard district of West Edmonton have expressed their concerns regarding the opening of an Islamic school in their community by the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC), the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood was founded in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna. Itsmotto is: "Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur'an is our constitution. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope".

Shortly after some citizens expressed concerns in the West End News about the background of the promoters of this K-9 school, CTV and the Edmonton Sun reported that the Edmonton chapter of the MAC threatened the local paper with a civil suit. Instead of trying to defuse the concerns of the citizens by explaining how their goals and objectives were compatible with individual freedom, the MAC's leaders in Edmonton are trying to silence their critics.

Point de Bascule (Tipping Point) has been set up to expose the subtle ways used by Islamists to promote their agenda. The text that follows focuses on identifying the objectives pursued by the Muslim Brotherhood and it provides many links towards various statements made by its leaders in the past. Another text will follow in the coming days that will deal more specifically with the tactic of legal warfare frequently used by the Islamists to prevent any discussion about their agenda.

The concerns expressed by the citizens of Lessard are not only justified, they should be taken into consideration by the authorities. Up to now, the government has been silent on the issue. The citizens have no other choice but to challenge the Islamists willing to abuse the legal system in order to shut down responsible inquiry.

Issam Saleh

Issam Saleh, the chairman of the Muslim Association of Canada's Edmonton chapter, told the Edmonton Sun [August 19, 2010] that "a tiny handful of people exhibiting Islamophobia are spreading distortions and outright falsehoods about the organization". "Our lawyers are compiling a case and we're considering legal action," added Saleh.

MAC regards this ideology as the best representation of Islam as delivered by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

What kind of positions has Issam Saleh taken in his five-year stint as an advisor for the City of Edmonton? How does someone implement Hassan al-Banna's principles while being on the Advisory Board of a major city? Edmonton residents must take a look at this issue.

Hassan al-Banna (1906 - 1949)

A summary of al-Banna's ideology can be found in a 50 point manifesto that he submitted to several Arab leaders in 1947. The manifesto has been added to al-Banna's book Towards the Light. The Muslim Brotherhood republished the manifesto in 2007. It is available on its Ikhwanweb.com website. Ikhwan is the Arabic word for brothers and it is commonly used for identifying the Muslim Brotherhood [Al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun].

The manifesto promotes among others the abolition of political parties and the establishment of a single party system which is pure totalitarianism. It also favours the modification of the laws so that they conform to shariah and the multiplication of associations dedicated to promoting the spirit of jihad amongst the youth. Faced with the Egyptian authorities' refusal to implement al-Banna's program in 1948, his organisation launched many acts of terror in Egypt and even assassinated the Prime Minister (New York Times December 29, 1948).

In his essay On Jihad included in the book Five Tracts, al-Banna explains that "it's an obligation for us [Muslims] to fight against them [the infidels] after inviting them [to join Islam], even if they do not fight against us". [Five Tracts, Translated by Charles Wendell, Berkeley, University of California Press, 1978, p. 147]

To inspire his troops, Hassan al-Banna recalled in his essay To What Do We Invite Humanity? that in history many leaders experienced modest beginnings before finally achieving "success and fortune". He mentioned several Muslim warlords who inspired him. Only one of his sources of inspiration was non-Muslim. It was Adolf Hitler.

Beside the terrorist organization Hamas that acknowledges its relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood in the second article of its charter [HERE], the Muslim Association of Canada is more than likely the only other branch of the Brotherhood openly stating its connection with Hassan al-Banna's organization and ideology. The observation is made by the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report, a website that monitors the activities of the Brotherhood throughout the world.

Youssef al-Qaradawi (1926 - )

Today, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, frequently reminds us through statements made in the Arab media that the Islamist organization is still a fierce enemy of individual freedoms.

In recent years, al-Qaradawi promoted the killing of apostates from Islam [islamonline.net] and the killing of homosexuals [video 5:27], he introduced Hitler as a messenger of Allah who came to punish the Jews [video], he urged Muslims to conquer the West [video], he favoured female genital mutilations and so forth.

When the Islamist militants behind the Edmonton Islamic school project declare that they will "adopt and strive to implement Islam, ... as understood in its contemporary context by Hassan al-Banna", they are announcing that they will devote their efforts to teach and make these principles triumph.

In his book Auspices of the Ultimate Victory, Youssef al-Qaradawi states that the penetration of the Islamist ideology in the West can be explained by the groundwork brought about by the Muslim Brotherhood and by the contributions in petrodollars made by Gulf state billionaires. Al-Qaradawi also expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for distributing for free all around the world "many millions of copies of the Qur'an ... in model English and French translations".

The Hilali-Khan translation of the Koran

The English translation of the Koran being distributed by Saudi Arabia is referred to as the Hilali-Khan translation [Online copy - click HERE]. It is, by far, the most popular in English speaking countries. The translation approved by the MAC's mentor is generally being used in the English schools set up by the Muslim Brotherhood.

One excerpt from this English translation will suffice to illustrate what is being taught in MAC's schools.

After the verse 2:190 that discusses jihad, the translators have added a footnote to prevent any misunderstanding regarding the meaning of the word. Click [HERE]:

"Jihad (holy fighting) in Allah's Cause (with full force of numbers and weaponry) is given the utmost importance in Islam and is one of its pillars (on which it stands). By Jihad Islam is established, Allah's Word is made superior [...] and Islam is propagated. By abandoning Jihad (may Allah protect us from that) Islam is destroyed and Muslims fall into an inferior position; their honour is lost, their lands are stolen, their rule and authority vanish. Jihad is an obligatory duty in Islam on every Muslim and he who tries to escape from this duty, or does not in his innermost heart wish to fulfill this duty, dies with one of the qualities of a hypocrite."

Jamal Badawi

On a 2007 MAC webpage, North American Muslim Brotherhood leader and Canadian national, Jamal Badawi, is listed as a director of the organization. GMBDR reports that Dr. Badawi is a leader in many of the most important organizations of the Muslim Brotherhood including the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Council on American Islamic Relations (Canada), the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA), the Muslim American Society (MAS), and the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR).

Before being chosen to be part of the MAC leadership, Badawi had justified Muslim suicide bombings as a legitimate tactic of jihad on a 2006 IslamOnline Internet forum. He had also issued in 2004 a fatwa for IslamOnline that was outlining six conditions in which a wife may properly be beaten " (if she) persists in bad habits".

During the two trials of the Holy Land Foundation that led to the conviction in 2008 of several members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood network for financing terrorist activities in the Middle East from the United States, the prosecution presented as evidence an internal memorandum of the organization. The original Arabic version of the memorandum and its English translation have been archived by The Investigative Project on Terrorism. Jamal Badawi is identified on page 12 of the English translation as a member of the leadership structure of the Brotherhood in North America.

This internal document also clearly mentions on page 7 the goal pursued by the MAC and all the other organizations affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood in North America:

"The Ikhwan [the Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is kind of a grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions. [...] It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes."

Over the years, the Muslim Association of Canada has endorsed many radical Islamists whose views are completely incompatible with the mission that a school should pursue with the children under its responsibility. One of these radicals is Ekrima Sabri (aka Ikrimah Sabri).

IslamOnline.net (in 2002) and Steve Merley of the NEFA Foundation (in 2009) identified Sabri as the khatib (imam, prayer leader) of the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem and as the mufti of the city. Merley added that Sabri is a member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) that also includes U.S. Muslim Brotherhood leader Taha Al-Alawani, as well as other members associated with the Brotherhood.

In 2009, IRFAN-Canada invited Sabri to give a lecture at the Centre Culturel Laurentien, one of the MAC's facilities in Montreal.

IRFAN-Canada is a branch of the American IRFAN (Islamic Relief Fund for the Afflicted and the Needy) also known as the Jerusalem Fund. The Jerusalem Fund was one of many Muslim Brotherhood affiliates that were designated as non indicted co-conspirators in the two trials that were discussed previously. As for IRFAN-Canada, it was disqualified in April 2010 from issuing donation receipts for income tax purposes after the Canada Revenue Agency had stated that it did not have its books in order and had failed to provide required documents.

Many subtitled videos featuring Ekrima Sabri are available online. Viewing some of them could be helpful to better understand the principles of the MAC who welcomed him in Canada.

Two weeks before the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Sabri implored Allah to destroy Great Britain and the United States on Voice of Palestine Radio. Click [HERE].

In October 2000, the Al-Ahram Al-Arabi periodical from Egypt asked a few questions to Ekrima Sabri on various topics, including suicide bombings. The organization MEMRI has supplied an English translation available [HERE].

Here is the transcription of two Q&As:

Question: "What do you feel when you pray [for the souls of the martyrs]?"

Sabri: "I feel the martyr is lucky because the angels usher him to his wedding in heaven. I feel the earth moves under the occupiers' feet."

Question: "Is it different when the martyr is a child?"

Sabri: "Yes, it is. It's hard to express it in words. There is no doubt that a child [martyr] suggests that the new generation will carry on the mission with determination. The younger the martyr, the greater and the more I respect him."

When Sabri alludes to a wedding in heaven, he is referring to various verses of the Koran [44:54 52:20] that promise many young virgins (houris) as a reward to those who died while waging jihad.

When an organization like the MAC wants to open a school and sponsors fanatics who dream of sending children to their death, when an organization pledges to follow the teachings of Hassan al-Banna who was openly advocating for the "promot(ion of) the spirit of jihad amongst the youth", it is the duty of responsible citizens to further their investigation and to do everything they can to stop this cancer from spreading in their vicinity.

This article will be followed in the coming days by another one that will focus more specifically on the Islamists' favourite tactic of suing their critics in order to silence them.

It amazed that Australia has discovered one of the most heinous case from its history, and how it has been the plaything of all the manipulations to silence a journalist, Janet Albrechtsen, who sounded the alarm for 3 years ...

The scope and detail of the case are just beginning to emerge in newspapers, including the most serious of the country, and is shock over the sadism and cruelty of the crimes, but also their motivation.

For the worst in Australia is that it discovers an entirely new phenomenon which emerged two years of quasi-two cases similar "rape jihadist", claimed as such as a weapon of war against "crusaders" West.

Initially, a sordid rape case

When finally one of five accused of several rapes, all brothers, has cracked and confessed his crime in open court, the relief was visible on the faces of the victims. Or rather, only two of the victims, who have ventured out of 18 go through and testify in court for crimes they have suffered.

The defense counsel sat, and through him a whole system developed around the band of five Pakistanis and their families in self-defense that collapsed in a barely audible confession, of a frail voice that would almost forget that the young man who has cracked under the onslaught of the prosecutor and in face of DNA evidence.

The matter was kept confidential, did almost as exaggerated or unfounded rumors for months. Because the matter was sensitive, five Muslims indicted particularly sordid sex crimes against young girls of 13-17 years in a country where one does not trifle with any legal Protestant hard as steel, authorities feared the worse in a difficult international context.

For it is the aftermath of the Bali bombings that the case is judicial. 6 young girls decide to sue for repeated rapes, suffered for months under the constraint that have been submitted by five men aged 16-22 years, of Pakistani origin, shouting anti-Muslim conspiracy in the wake of terrorist attacks Bali that claimed the lives of hundreds of young Australian tourists targeted by Al Qaeda to punish Australia for its support to the U.S. in Iraq.

Anti-racist associations, Muslim families of the accused, support the young men "well in every respect", which even received the support of the local mosque. The father of accused coward leaving the court, "Pakistani girls do not go out tonight, you are the enemies of Muslims, you will help only the whites white and my son are not rapists"

Overwhelming evidence and the logic of terror

But the evidence is without appeal, the five brothers were filming the rapes they committed a small house that the oldest was praised for it.

Arrived with family in Australia in 2000, thanks to selective immigration plan that allows the father, GP, settling in Sydney, five brothers go for several months, from January to July 2002, flirting with girls they always took care to select young, vulnerable and naive enough to be dragged into the house in Ashfield on the pretext of a small "celebration" improvised among young people.

The scenario was then still the same, the girls were immediately threatened, forced to drink alcohol to intoxication and raped, still a very violent manner, psychiatrists emphasizing the sadistic rape after viewings of videotapes that abusers carefully recorded and classified.

At the Court of Australia in December 2005, a rapist Pakistan said that his victims had no right to refuse because they do not wear the Islamic headscarf.

In Copenhagen, the mufti and top Islamic cleric, Shahid Mehdi created outrage when he said that women did not wear the Islamic headscarf ask to be raped.

Phyllis Lambert and Serge Joyal defend the Muslim Brotherhood at the expense of freedom, par Tania Tokarsky

In a letter published by Le Devoir on July 13th 2010, Phyllis Lambert* and Serge Joyal** ask the Charest Government to reconsider its decision to purchase the building that the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) was going to acquire in downtown Montreal in order to establish a mosque and a community center. They stated that there was nothing in the MAC's project that would threaten the historical and architectural qualities of the building and thus concluded that the Government's decision had the appearance of excluding the Muslim community.

By neglecting to discuss the aspects of the MAC's program as well as the other organisations involved in the project, Ms. Lambert and Mr. Joyal are making those who are opposed to the project look like bigots. As for Point de Bascule, our opposition to the MAC's project has never been motivated by a hostility towards a new Muslim house of worship. From the very beginning, PdeB made it clear that the problem was the political program of the organisation behind the project.

We believe that an opposition to a MAC-led mosque based on an in-depth examination of its political goals and objectives demonstrates a responsible attitude and a commitment towards individual freedom rather than closed-mindedness.

The Facts

The mosque project that was to be implemented inside the historical Grey Nun's building was launched by the Muslim Student Association (MSA) branches of both McGill and Concordia Universities. The MSA was founded in 1963. It was one of the first communication channels that the Muslim Brotherhood established in North America. The affiliation of both Montreal universities to the MSA is explicitly mentioned in their respective constitution available on the Internet.

To manage their mosque project, the McGill and Concordia MSA branches constituted the Montreal Community Center (MCC). Eventually the MCC entrusted the management of the project to the MAC, the Muslim Brotherhood arm operating in English Canada. Présence Musulmane Canada (PMC) headed by Salah Basalamah acts as a counterpart to the MAC in French Canada. The MAC and PMC jointly organised the April 2010 conferences of Tariq Ramadan when he visited Montreal.

On its website, the MAC declares that it "adopts and strives to implement Islam, [...] as understood in its contemporary context by the late Imam, Hassan al-Banna. MAC regards this ideology as the best representation of Islam as delivered by Prophet Muhammad."

A summary of Hassan al-Banna's doctrine is available in the 50 point manifesto that he sent to several political leaders of the Arab world in 1947. The manifesto promotes the abolition of political parties and the establishment of a single party system; the modification of the laws so that they conform to shariah; the multiplication of associations dedicated to promoting the spirit of jihad amongst the youth; the closure of dance halls and the censorship of movies and plays and so forth. In his manifesto, al-Banna stated his intention to impose a unique dress code to the entire population. Faced with the Egyptian authorities' refusal to implement al-Banna'sprogram, his organisation multiplied acts of terror in Egypt, including the assassination of the Prime Minister in 1948.

In one of his essays, On Jihad, al-Banna explains that "it's an obligation for us [Muslims] to fight against them [the infidels] after inviting them [to join Islam], even if they do not fight against us. (Five Tracts, Translated by Charles Wendell, Berkeley, University of California Press, 1978, p. 147)

To inspire his troops, Hassan al-Banna recalled in his essay To What Do We Invite Humanity? that in history many leaders experienced modest beginnings before finally achieving "success and fortune". He mentioned several Muslim warlords who inspired him. Only one was non-Muslim. It was Adolph Hitler. Today, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, frequently reminds us through statements made in the Arab media that the Islamist organization is still a fierce enemy of individual freedoms.

In recent years, al-Qaradawi promoted the killing of apostates from Islam [islamonline.net] and homosexuals [video 5:27], he introduced Hitler as a messenger of Allah who came to punish the Jews [video], he urged Muslims to conquer the West [video], he favoured female genital mutilations and so forth.

The internal document also clearly mentions the goal pursued by the organisation in North American. The excerpt reads as follows:

A Diversified Opposition to the Muslim Brotherhood

If we needed a convincing proof that opposing the Muslim Brotherhood does not equate to the ostracising of Muslims in general, it came from none other than Muslims themselves on the very day that Le Devoir published Phyllis Lambert and Serge Joyal's letter.

In the July 13th edition of La Presse, an article from France-Presse reports that several groups of Jordanian women opposed a bill promoted by the local Muslim Brotherhood branch which seeks to allow the marriage of 15 year old girls while maintaining the minimal age to 18 for boys. The Jordanian women opposed to the bill argue that legalizing the marriage of very young girls equates to legalising rape. Hamman Said, the local Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood leader, replied that "shariah law allows marriage under the age of 18 if the spouses have reached a certain level of maturity." He also added that "disastrous consequences" await women who "adopt the ways of Western education".

It was also by invoking shariah law that in the past the Muslim Brotherhood opposed criminal penalties for fathers who kill their daughers. These reforms were promoted by Queen Rania of Jordan. The kings of the joke are now less caustic, less subversive, but also more consensual and soothing. Whose fault?

They may be funny, but ultimately they deceive their audience. Proof: while pretending to laugh at everything, the comedians, who seized gently Montreal for the 28th edition of Just for Laughs Festival, have tended considerably reduced in recent years, the subject and object of derision.

He is interested in politics, history. He lectures to children. He always has something interesting to say. He has strong views and has not stopped the language in his pocket, which earned him many problems that persist today. I try to advise as best I can. It helps me feel more useful. Well, this week, I still want to let off steam, so, let's go, since it makes me feel good. The subject this time is love.

We make a lot of other things, books, soap operas, we found in adventure movies. Besides, I do not know if it's Leonardo da Vinci himself, who said "A life without love is no life." Ouch! If we are not loved, hello suicide. That said, I know friends who lack love to cause havoc in their lives. I will elaborate in the next paragraph.

My life has not been easy, but as I discovered, you can say the same for the life of most people. My main problem with me was my integration in the school. In kindergarten, I was a child friendly, but shy. I liked being with other children, but I had probably not the right technique to approach them. This has continued throughout my high school, with its complications. A person who in misery to make friends will be alone, alone it is more vulnerable. And teens attack vulnerable children. All my high school I was ridiculed. I was afraid to go to school, I threw food, and when I defended myself and was angry, it made things worse, I looked ridiculous to carry me in any stuttering against several teenagers agile lips. This caused havoc with his approach to love. The love he sought and which caused him much trouble by his absence has made him a being who has learned to live without. They say we can not give what we have not received. Well, despite his efforts, his girlfriend could not receive what she was willing to give.

She had heard that the evils of the heart could be healed only by the intervention of another. For the love be a give and receive. Knowing that love had made a great fool for his opinion, this girl tried to give and to receive his friend. But in vain. However, she remained confident managing to open a small window to another (or herself) tries again to heal this young man, one day, when he would be ready. The Conservative government of Stephen Harper tabled a bill Thursday that would add 30 seats in the House of Commons.

The project goal is to ensure a more equitable representation of provinces that experienced in recent years, high population growth, said Steven Fletcher, Minister for Democratic Reform.

Ontario would receive around 18 new MPs, while British Columbia and Alberta have 7, 5.

As for the other provinces, they retain the seats they currently hold. Quebec is, therefore, assured of keeping its 75 MPs.

"The bill also guarantees Quebec and all other provinces the current number of seats they hold, even if their population does not justify it," said Steven Blaney Thursday, Conservative MP for Lévis-Bellechasse.

Still, if this bill is adopted, the total number of seats will increase from 308 to 338. The relative weight of the provinces where the number of seats has not increased thereby lessen Mechanically with 75 seats out of 338, the political voice of Quebec will be lower than 75 seats out of 308.

The only way to regain the province of political clout in the House of Commons would be the demographic with a higher birth rates or immigration, as was suggested by Steven Blaney.

The Bloc Québécois has denounced the new government's attempt to change the composition of the House of Commons. This is, he said, a political ploy. The Bloc DeBellefeuille Claude spoke of the reform as a partisan maneuver to the detriment of the Quebec nation.

Did you know that in Canada there are people who have the power you pack your home because you're the wrong race? The Band Council of the Kahnawake reserve, just across from the Honore-Mercier Bridge between Châteauguay and Saint-Constant, has received complaints that the 25 white, often couple with mohawks, interfered with the Local purity.

Most fascinating in this story is that the band seems to have the law on his side. In 1981, he has banned mixed marriages remain on the reservation except those who were married before that date. The law has vindicated the band council to control marriage within their territory:

In 1981, the community announced a moratorium on mixed marriages, which meant that non-natives who married Mohawks after that year would no longer have the right to live on the reserve. Any non-native who had married a Mohawk before the moratorium is still permitted to live on the reserve.

Corus Entertainment silenced two of its radio stations. AM Info690 Montreal and AM940 Montreal's Greatest Hits ceased operations Friday night at 19 pm

Last Friday morning in Ireland, about 30 minutes after a new law took effect with the new year that makes blasphemy a crime punishable by a fine of up to $35,000, a group of Irish atheists invited the government to prosecute them by publishing 25 blasphemous statements on an Irish Web site.

As The Lede explained last July — when the bill was signed by Ireland’s president, Mary McAleese — even though Ireland’s Constitution calls blasphemy a criminal act, the police force had no legal means to prosecute blasphemers.

According to the updated Irish Statute Book, the criminal blasphemer is defined as someone who “publishes or utters matter that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby causing outrage among a substantial number of the adherents of that religion, and … intends, by the publication or utterance of the matter concerned, to cause such outrage.”

On the Web site Blasphemy.ie, Michael Nugent, a writer and co-founder of Atheist Ireland, wrote that his group was trying hard to break the new law because it is “both silly and dangerous.” Mr. Nugent explained:

It is silly because medieval religious laws have no place in a modern secular republic, where the criminal law should protect people and not ideas. And it is dangerous because it incentives religious outrage, and because Islamic states led by Pakistan are already using the wording of this Irish law to promote new blasphemy laws at U.N. level.

Given that the law explicitly states that the intention of the blasphemer has to be to cause outrage, it is not clear if the Irish atheists have really succeeded in breaking it. The 25 statements published on Blasphemy.ie are largely inoffensive quotes from people like Jesus, Mark Twain and a fictional character in Monty Python’s “Life of Brian” that are unlikely to ever fill the streets of Dublin with enraged protesters.

What makes the Irish group’s attempt to break the law seem particularly tame is that it came on the same day last week that an axe-wielding man in Denmark tried to attack a cartoonist who offended millions of Muslims by publishing a drawing thought to show the Prophet Muhammad with a bomb in his turban. Say what you will about the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, which intentionally published 12 cartoons mocking Islam in 2005, but that publication certainly showed how to cause the kind of outrage described in Ireland’s new law.

If the Irish atheists had wanted to make sure that they were breaking Ireland’s new law, they could simply have republished those cartoons, as the blogger Andrew Sullivan did last week in response to the attack on the cartoonist.

Indeed, some observers in Ireland, noting that the country’s Christian leaders made no public request for the legal prohibition on blasphemy to be made enforceable, have guessed that the government may have been acting mainly to restrain any Irish publisher from following the lead of the conservative Danish paper in offending Muslim sensibilities. David Quinn, a former editor of a Catholic newspaper in Ireland, told NPR that the new Irish law may have been introduced not to placate Ireland’s Christian majority, but because “there was a fear that we might get a Danish cartoon-style controversy in Ireland — that some newspaper might publish something that Muslims found highly offensive — and it might have repercussions for Irish trade in the Muslim world.”

Security Theater Now Playing at Your Airport, by Daniel Pipes

As hands are wrung in the aftermath of the near-tragedy on a Northwest Airlines flight approaching Detroit, a conversation from London's Heathrow airport in 1986 comes to mind.

It consisted of an El Al security agent quizzing one Ann-Marie Doreen Murphy, a 32-year-old recent arrival in London from Sallynoggin, Ireland. While working as a chambermaid at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane Murphy met Nizar al-Hindawi, a far-leftist Palestinian who impregnated her. After instructing her to "get rid of the thing," he abruptly changed his tune and insisted on immediate marriage in "the Holy Land." He also insisted on their traveling separately.

Murphy, later described by the prosecutor as a "simple, unsophisticated Irish lass and a Catholic," accepted unquestioningly Hindawi's arrangements for her to fly to Israel on El Al on April 17. She also accepted a wheeled suitcase with, unbeknown to her, a false bottom containing nearly 2 kilograms of Semtex, a powerful plastic explosive, and she agreed to be coached by him to answer questions posed by airport security.

Murphy successfully passed through the standard Heathrow security inspection and reached the gate with her bag, where an El Al agent questioned her. As reconstructed by Neil C. Livingstone and David Halevy in Washingtonian magazine, he started by asking whether she had packed her bags herself. She replied in the negative. Then:

"What is the purpose of your trip to Israel?" Recalling Hindawi's instructions, Murphy answered, "For a vacation."

"Are you married, Miss Murphy?" "No."

"Traveling alone?" "Yes."

"Is this your first trip abroad?" "Yes."

"Do you have relatives in Israel?" "No."

"Are you going to meet someone in Israel?" "No."

"Has your vacation been planned for a long time?" "No."

"Where will you stay while you're in Israel?" "The Tel Aviv Hilton."

"How much money do you have with you?" "Fifty pounds." The Hilton at that time costing at least £70 a night, he asked:

"Do you have a credit card?" "Oh, yes," she replied, showing him an ID for cashing checks.

That did it, and the agent sent her bag for additional inspection, where the bombing apparatus was discovered.

Had El Al followed the usual Western security procedures, 375 lives would surely have been lost somewhere over Austria. The bombing plot came to light, in other words, through a non-technical intervention, relying on conversation, perception, common sense, and (yes) profiling. The agent focused on the passenger, not the weaponry. Israeli counterterrorism takes passengers' identities into account; accordingly, Arabs endure an especially tough inspection. "In Israel, security comes first," David Harris of the American Jewish Committee explains.

Obvious as this sounds, overconfidence, political correctness, and legal liability render such an approach impossible anywhere else in the West. In the United States, for example, one month after 9/11, the Department of Transportation issued guidelines forbidding its personnel from generalizing "about the propensity of members of any racial, ethnic, religious, or national origin group to engage in unlawful activity." (Wear a hijab, I semi-jokingly advise women wanting to avoid secondary screening at airport security.)

Worse yet, consider the panicky Mickey-Mouse, and embarrassing steps the U.S. Transportation Security Administration implemented hours after the Detroit bombing attempt: no crew announcements "concerning flight path or position over cities or landmarks," and disabling all passenger communications services. During a flight's final hour, passengers may not stand up, access carry-on baggage, nor "have any blankets, pillows, or personal belongings on the lap."

Some crews went yet further, keeping cabin lights on throughout the night while turning off the in-flight entertainment, prohibiting all electronic devices, and, during the final hour, requiring passengers to keep hands visible and neither eat nor drink. Things got so bad, the Associated Press reports, "A demand by one attendant that no one could read anything … elicited gasps of disbelief and howls of laughter."

Widely criticized for these Clouseau-like measures, TSA eventually decided to add "enhanced screening" for travelers passing through or originating from fourteen "countries of interest" – as though one's choice of departure airport indicates a propensity for suicide bombing.

The TSA engages in "security theater" – bumbling pretend-steps that treat all passengers equally rather than risk offending anyone by focusing, say, on religion. The alternative approach is Israelification, defined by Toronto's Star newspaper as "a system that protects life and limb without annoying you to death."

Which do we want – theatrics or safety?

Mr. Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum and Taube fellow at the Hoover Institution, has super-elite status at two airlines.

Jan. 6, 2010 update: I lacked space in the column to play out this ultimate scenario: What if a very large group of hijackers gets on a plane, enough of them so that with muscle alone – no knives, guns, or bombs – they overpower the passengers and crew? What if they threaten the pilots to strangle one person after another until the plane comes under their control? No amount of technology can prevent such a scenario; only scrutiny of who is getting aboard can do so.

And while there has been no such large group, "Those Fourteen Syrians on Northwest Airlines Flight #327" represented a possible step in that direction.

Jan. 17, 2010 update: As the anecdote concerning Ann-Marie Murphy implies, I am not calling for religious profiling so much as using one's brains to focus on the threat. Therefore, while I see the following news from Finland, "Passengers' Religion May Lead to X-Ray Scan," as a step in the right direction, I also see it as simplistic:

Airport security may soon start scanning travellers based on their religion or citizenship. A syndicate of regional papers reports that a policy of passenger profiling may be adopted if Finland begins using new -- and controversial -- electromagnetic scanners.

Finland's aviation authority Finavia is considering whether to invest in electromagnetic scanners. But their bulky size and prohibitive expense means they would not entirely replace standard metal detectors. This is why, explains Finavia's head of corporate security Jyri Vikström, they may use passenger profiling in addition to random scans. .

Comment: How curious if the cost of electromagnetic scanners is what prompts a more discerning approach to airport security. And Finland - not the place one would expect such a cutting-edge decision, given its relative lack of terrrorism.

Barbara Kay: Quebec's new state religion -- cultural relativism, by Barbara Kay

In September 2008, after years of pre-planning by elites without public consultation, Quebec’s Ministry of Education established a province-wide, compulsory pedagogical program called Éthique et Culture Religieuse (ÉCR).

All Quebec students — public, private, even the homeschooled — must take ÉCR (with the exception of one secondary school year) from age six through high school.

On its sunny face, the ÉCR program introduces students to the rich variety of religious beliefs and rituals in today’s “intercultural” Quebec, where all citizens “live together in the bosom of a Quebec [that is] democratic and open to the world.”

But a newly landed bombshell amongst Quebec’s chattering classes, a study produced by Ethnic Studies Phd candidate Joëlle Quérin for the Institut de Recherche sur le Québec, persuasively argues that the ideology behind the course is anything but benign, reinforcing concerns about this troubling program I expressed in these pages last December.

Following a close analysis of the course’s stated objectives, content, teachers’ roles and suggested activities, Quérin pulls no punches in her conclusion: “I wanted to verify if the course gives knowledge to children or if it indoctrinates them. I observed that it was the second alternative that prevailed.”

Two values dominate the program’s objectives: learning to “vivre ensemble” (live together) and arriving at the “bien commun” (the common good). How does ÉCR produce social harmony? By constant “dialogue” and “recognition” of other cultures, which can only be accomplished, in the words of ÉCR mandarin Georges Leroux, by inculcating in children “absolute respect for every religious position.”

But according to ÉCR, “every religious position” includes pagan animism, witchcraft (Wiccans “are women like any other in daily life”), and the nutbar Raëlian Movement (“technologically, [the Raëlians are 25,000 years in advance of us”). To bundle superstitions and cults together with authentic religions, then demand deference to all, is to discourage actual respect for any but the state religion of “normative pluralism,” the real aim of the program.

In its indifference to objective knowledge, in its crusade to hallow cultural relativism and a strictly Charter-of-rights based identity, ÉCR stimulates heritage students’ detachment from their own cultural touchstones, and chills critical thinking in all students.

Quérin cites, for example, one instance where students were invited to redesign the Quebec flag, replacing the cross with a more “inclusive” symbol, and another, an activity called “Youpi! Ma religion à moi!” (my own religion!) in which religions actually invented by students are accorded the same esteem as real ones. Such subversive pedagogical impulses dismissively mock Quebec’s unique culture, based, like all others, in a shared language, religion and collective values formed over time.

In the ÉCR scheme, teachers do not actually convey knowledge, but rather “plan, organize activities, advise, accompany, encourage, support … make suggestions, but never impose.”

But they must and do “impose” sometimes. The program harps relentlessly on “dialogue” as the principal vehicle for learning to “vivre ensemble.” But if, according to an editing team spokesman, the dialogue does not follow a politically correct script — that is, if students of independent mind or critical point of view diverge in behaviour or words from the prescribed “recognition” mantra: all cultural traditions are equal; all beliefs are good — “The teacher must intervene immediately to stop it on the spot. Any attack in class on the dignity of the person or the common good must be immediately denounced, because it is not tolerated in our society. In that [respect], the program of Ethical and Religious Culture is not neutral.”Thus Quérin darkly warns: “After having followed the ÉCR course for 10 years, the students won’t have a great knowledge of religions, but one thing is sure: no [cultural] accommodation will seem unreasonable to them.”

A May 2009 Léger marketing poll on ÉCR found that 76% of québécois prefer a choice in religious education; they think their elites have shown contempt for the population. Many parents are demanding ÉCR exemptions, if not outright abolition of the program. Grassroots resistance movements — strange bedfellows of anti-clericalists, practicing Catholics and nationalists, each with their own support network — are pushing back through political activism, the media and the courts.

As well they should. ÉCR is a creepy state foray into social engineering. Disguised as multicultural feel-goodism, the program is in reality the utopian Quebec Left’s strategic plan for societal transformation. Their tactics: the appropriation of parents’ natural and rightful authority over their children’s religious upbringing; the willful erosion of children’s pride in their Quebec patrimony; and the slow suffocation of students’ inherent curiosity and intellectual autonomy.

If Quebec does not wish to end up in the sick ward of western cultures, ÉCR must be excised in the operating theatre of popular resistance.

Detroit terror attack: A murderous ideology tolerated for too long, by Noémie Cournoyer

Friday's attempt to blow up a transatlantic airliner by a British-educated Islamist was foiled by the bravery of its passengers and crew. We cannot assume that we will be lucky next time. And the indications are that there will be a next time.

According to police sources, 25 British-born Muslims are currently in Yemen being trained in the art of bombing planes. But most of these terrorists did not acquire their crazed beliefs in the Islamic world: they were indoctrinated in Britain. Indeed, thousands of young British Muslims support the use of violence to further the Islamist cause – and this despite millions of pounds poured by the Government into projects designed to prevent Islamic extremism.

Is it time for a fundamental rethink of Britain's attitude towards domestic Islamism? Consider this analogy. Suppose that, in several London universities, Right‑wing student societies were allowed to invite neo-Nazi speakers to address teenagers. Meanwhile, churches in poor white neighbourhoods handed over their pulpits to Jew-hating admirers of Adolf Hitler, called for the execution of homosexuals, preached the intellectual inferiority of women, and blessed the murder of civilians. What would the Government do? It would bring the full might of the criminal law against activists indoctrinating young Britons with an inhuman Nazi ideology – and the authorities that let them. Any public servants complicit in this evil would be hounded from their jobs.

Jihadist Islamism is also a murderous ideology, comparable to Nazism in many respects. The British public realises this; so do the intelligence services. Yet because it arises out of a worldwide religion – most of whose followers are peaceful – politicians and the public sector shrink from treating its ideologues as criminal supporters of violence. Instead, the Government throws vast sums of money at the Muslim community in order to ensure that what is effectively a civil war between extremists and moderates is won by the latter. This policy – supported by all the main political parties – does not seem to be working. The authorities, lacking specialist knowledge, sometimes turn for advice to "moderate" Muslims who have extreme sympathies; supporters of al-Qaeda are paid to disseminate their ideology to young people.

Radical Islamist leaders are not stupid: they know how to play this system. The indoctrination of students carries on under the noses of public servants who are terrified of being labelled Islamophobic or racist. Therefore they fail to do their duty, which is to protect Muslims and non-Muslims alike from a terrorist ideology. If providing that protection requires fewer "consultations" with "community leaders" and more arrests, then so be it.

All these years of cultural relativism, of accommodation and political correctness on radical Islam Canadian bear fruit. By dint of imagining that all the radicals are equal, we focus on the wrong targets. Radical Islam is rising and we do not even need to look to find them, they appear! One of the most radical movements of the Islamic world, Hizb ut-Tahrir has just moved openly in Canada. This movement is a kind of conduit for organizations like al Qaeda. He plays the role of agency recruitment and training for organizations Terros which themselves apply jihad in its most violent and also seeks, among other things, terrorism to advance the cause. For decades the Hizb ut-Tahrir acted secretly in the United States, organizing meetings and conferences under the name of organizations-screens. But things have changed. He became more rebellious and do more cache to spread its ideas in North America.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is an international movement which has the goal of restoring an Islamic state or caliphate-world - which encourages Muslims to support jihad. Its particularity is to provide resources to terrorism. The movement recruited and indoctrinated individuals unstable then we find in organizations 'act' like al-Qaida. One of these former members is Kahlid Sheikh Mohammad, an organizer of the attacks of September 11. There was also Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Hambali, head of Jemaa Islamiya terrorist group and Asif Muhammad Hanif and Omar Khan Sharif recruited by Hamas to carry out attacks in Tel Aviv.

Hizb ut-Tahrir was founded in 1952 by Sheikh Yaqiuddin Al-Nabhan, a man whose worldview was shaped by the Muslim Brotherhood, but found that the Brotherhood had become too moderate! After participating in the coup that failed in Egypt and Jordan, the Hizb ut-Tahrir was considered so radical it was banned throughout the Middle East. He then moved to Europe and after the fall of communism, it has spread in Central Asia.

It is difficult to estimate the number of its members. He certainly has grown since the attacks of September 11, said Madeleine Gruen, a principal analyst for the NEFA Foundation. In 2003 it was estimated that the movement had ten to one hundred thousand members worldwide. Today, this movement, active in forty countries, nearly one hundred thousand members not only in Indonesia and "several hundreds of thousands" in the world, according to Mrs. Gruen.

In the U.S., Hizb ut-Tahrir were hundreds of members. His ideology is a mixture of orthodox Islam, Marxism-Leninism, anti-Semitism and opposition to liberal democracies. Even if it arises in non-violent movement, the Hizb ut-Tahrir advocates, "the same vision and goals that al-Qaida," according to experts like Madeleine Gruen observes that the Hizb ut-Tahrir expands recruitment activities on a much broader basis.

Even if he does not organize terrorist acts, Hizb ut-Tahrir glorifies jihad and accuses of terrorist organizations like Hamas do not be so hard on Israel. In a brochure posted on its website July 1, the organization said that if the caliphate there, all of Palestine "would be cleared of occupants Jews" and brought "into the fold of the Islamic state."

HTA is also obsessed with the alleged nefarious U.S., President Obama and the capitalist system. This can be seen casting a glance at the titles of articles posted on its website.

The spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir emphasize that their organization is not engaged in terrorist activities and affirmed that the United States and Paskistan want to delete because they fear his fight for justice for Muslims .

Bullshit meet the criticisms. "Freedom and justice sought by hypertension can be achieved by violence, as it is to overthrow democracies." This was particularly backed the director of Center for Eurasian Policy Hudson Institute. Zeyno Baran.

Testifying before a Senate committee, Baran said: "It is unlikely that the Hisz ut-Tahrir is involved in terrorism. The terrorist action is not part of its mission. But this movement serves as training camps ideological and political Islamists. I have described as "a conveyor belt to terrorism".
