Francis Chartrand invites the young people to take part in the democratic life

Dany Cloutier

Two of the five candidates engaged in the race with the federal elections in Rivière-des-Mille-Îles answered the call of the Forum youth and came to meet young people of Saint-Eustache, last Wednesday, Francis Chartrand, New democratic Party (NDP) is one of them. Political representative par excellence of the left, it thus could fully express his aspirations for Quebec and Canada. At the same time, it encouraged the young people to put forward their points of view.

Native of Deux-Montagnes, young man the 23 year old militated against the poverty within organizations and of associations coeds of North Shore. He militates for the safeguard of some timbered, in particular with Deux-Montagnes and Boisbriand, just as for the protection of the ecosystem of the river of the Thousand Islands. Partisan of the NDP for one year, it has chosen to enter the race very right before the holidays of the festivals. Being defined as “on the left” and “social democrat”, it says to want to defend the fundamental needs for the population. “In Saint-Eustache and in the surroundings, approximately 250 to 300 young people live in the street”, known as that which wants to support the construction of some 1000 social housing in the area. Moreover, it benefitted from the platform which was offered to him to invite young people and less young people to be joined to a walk against the poverty which will take place the day before poll, Sunday, and which will leave the town hall of Deux-Montagnes to finish with the Café de la paix, Saint-Eustache.

In answer to a question of the young people about the local stakes of the campaign, Mr. Chartrand put forward the importance to accentuate public transport, in optics to satisfy the requirements of the agreement of Kyoto on the emission of gases for purpose of greenhouse. He makes the promotion of a project of bus line between Boisbriand and the new subway of Laval. Position at the very least surprising, it also takes made and causes for a project of development of wind power in the area, at the very least in the sector of Mirabel.

What does resemble the life of a candidate of the NDP in Rivière-des-Mille-Îles? Francis Chartrand appears from the start exhausted by a many campaign and professional obligations. It does not have a large machine behind him, not either of electoral room, but is “on the piton” as of 4 or 5 in the morning. With the assistance of a handle the voluntary ones, it organizes its day which, especially these days, is synonymous with many phone calls. The experiment is not less enriching, and it suggests with the young people trying them also the experiment, while advising however to have a good preparation.

Well with the current of the Sponsership scandal , which is omnipresent in the current federal countryside, the young people wanted to know the reactions of the candidate of the NPD, which was not obstructed to answer: “While your parents work to put bread on your table, of the friends of the liberals put money in the pockets. One asks more for ethics and of transparency”, it has says, affirming the importance, for each citizen, to take an active part in the political life, all the points of view.

Wind mills, health, environment and poverty with the menu for the NDP

Valerie Schmaltz

Six candidates of the New democratic Party (NDP) and representing Laurentides met a little earlier last week to post various projects touching with their area. Among those, Alain Sénécal, of Argenteuil-Papineau-Mirabel, Francis Chartrand, Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, and Michel Le Clair, of Terrebonne-Blainville.

Enthusiastic militants, the candidates in string with the federal elections of next January 23 benefitted from this public platform to present and especially to take stock of this countryside which is announced heralding great changes.

“We did not taste with the capacity long enough to be corrupted”, let know of entry of play the Michel candidate Light. Official statement in hand, this last announced the changes recommended by its party a little earlier in the course of the day, such as the improvement of the system of health, the balance of the budgets, the autonomy of elder, the places in nursery and the introduction of a national mode of drugs.

As regards Francis Chartrand, its experiment of worker of street enabled him to note how much poverty and the itinérance were omnipresent in the area.

“We must intervene quickly, because poverty touches people of all the ages. One counts between 200 and 250 young people who live in the street with Saint-Eustache and it is enormous! I commit myself setting up a plan of handing-over on youthful foot to counter these sad problems”, underlined the 23 year old candidate.

As for Alain Sénécal, candidate of Argenteuil-Papineau-Mirabel, his speech took an environmental tangent when it made the advertisement which its party wished to found a company of State in renewable and green energy.

“Since the closing of the airport of Mirabel, no innovative project was presented. Our motivation remains the creation of a research center which would find root in the same installations of the airport”, explained this last. “It is necessary to act! Not only to wish to want to change the things. Even thing on the side of the farmers of Mirabel towards which the NDP is committed giving again the grounds to them which were to them flights”.

Wind factor
“A firm came to study the wind factor with Mirabel and according to the results obtained, this last poster a rate higher than the average. We wish that the wind power makes its entry on a territory which is ready to accomodate it”, points out Francis Chartrand.

Supporting the remarks of his companion of campaign, Alain Sénécal could not however provide figures surrounding similar investment.

“I do not have the figures with me, but I can forward them to you”, it promised.

Health
If the NDP wishes to delay the latency in the urgencies, the restoration of medicine in residence could become an alternative to this chronic concern.

“I remind to you that the system of public health was founded by the founder of the NPD. It is certainly not an idea of the liberals”, indicated a partisan in the room.

Even if the NDP is not as strong as certain parties, one made a point of recalling that this last built “the alternative”.

“Have the audacity to do what you never dared to do. Vote NDP! ”, Alain Sénécal launched by starting a salvo of applause in the room.

Francis Chartrand reveals its engagements in Rivière-des-Mille-Îles

Valerie Schmaltz

Candidate of the New democratic Party (NDP) in the electoral district of Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, Francis Chartrand revealed, in a communicated court sent to our offices, his engagements for the federal elections of next January 23.

Born in Deux-Montagnes and graduate in social sciences, political and social profile, of the Cégep Bois-de-Boulogne, candidate the 23 years old wishes for its area a substantial increase in new doctors in the Hospital complex Saint-Eustache and the “development of a system of public health where the citizens have to pay and to put itself in debt”.

Also, the candidate aspires to put pressure on the federal government in order to finance the construction of 1.000 new social housing in the Lowones with an aim, says it, to counter the impoverishment of the population.

As for the other promises of the candidate, this last wishes to promote accessibility with public transport by freezing the prices of the local circuits between Saint-Eustache and Point-Calumet and of the suburban train between Montreal and Deux-Montagnes. It also aims a consultation near the local population in order to supplement the feasibility study to set up a line of bus express train between Boisbriand and the future subway station Montmorency, in Laval.

Among other engagements of the candidate, one notes the safeguarding of the river of the Thousand islands in order to declare it protected and salubrious zone, just as the protection of wooded of Deux-Montagnes (located close to the train station) and of Boisbriand (Rene-Lévesque park) to counter the real expansion.

With in foreground a public consultation and a follow-up near the population, Francis Chartrand proposes the installation of wind propellers in the surroundings of Saint-Eustace and Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-lac.

The candidates of the NDP put the true questions

Valerie Maynard

Some share, between the vote of protest and the vote of conviction, there is the vote by practice. People who vote red or blue by tradition. Then there are those which vote for the Bloc Québécois. Candidates of Laurentians of the NDP, by name, Alain Senécal, in Argenteuil-Papineau-Mirabel, Michel Le Clair, in Terrebonne-Blainville, and Francis Chartrand, in Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, linked their voice to affirm that to vote for the Bloc a large error constitutes.

According to them, before going to vote, the advised voter should put the true questions with the representatives of the Bloc Québécois. Questions such: “Does the Block recognize that the amendments of the New democrats with the budget of spring 2005 contributed to attack tax imbalance? How Quebec be freed would by sovereignty whereas, in parallel, the Bloc makes the promotion of the adoption of the American dollar and economic integration with the United States? Would the Bloc accept the inclusion of a principle of not-privatization (to exclude the public financing from private services) within the Canadian Law of health? Would the Bloc be in favour of an electoral reform in the direction of the representation proportional? Would the Parti Québécois and the Bloc be ready to say that the social democrat values pass before sovereignty?”

Because if the Bloc were really a party of left, the candidates of the NDP estimate, it would not agree to only work. If the Bloc were really a party dedicated to the defense of the interests of the Quebecers, it would not sacrifice social democracy on the furnace bridge of sovereignty while cutting the economic bonds and symbolic systems with Canada. Of their opinion, if the Block were really a party of left, it would categorically refuse the development of a system of two-speed care.

If the Bloc were really a party of left, it would be the first to defend a representation proportional of the vote. However, point out the candidates of the NDP, if such a reform were applied, the presence of the Bloc in Room would decrease by 53 deputies with approximately 38. What makes them say that the deputies bloquists can in theory support the reform, but they will never make promotion of it.

The candidates of the NDP firmly believe that only the NDP showed an interest real and nonin favour to defend the interests of Quebec during the last mandate, by preventing the liberal government in particular, last spring, to proceed to cuts of taxes of about 5 billion dollars and by obliging it to invest this money in the services with the citizens, of which 1 billion went directly in the trunks of Quebec.

“The NDP is the only party to recognize the Quebec nation. It defended always and will defend always the fields of competence specific to the provinces and will require always more transfers on behalf of Ottawa towards the provinces. The NDP is the party placed best to continue to defend the interests of Quebec in the next government”, unanimously concluded the candidates from the NDP.

A walk counters poverty

Benoit Bilodeau

Candidate of the New democratic Party (NDP) in the electoral district of Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, Francis Chartrand organizes for Sunday January 22, day before day of federal election, a walk against poverty.

This walk will begin as from 2 p.m., in the Place of voluntary, located on Chemin d'Oka, all beside the city hall of Deux-Montagnes. From there, the participants will be invited to go to the office of district of the deputy bloquist Gilles-A. Perron, in Saint-Eustache, then, to finish, with the Café de la Paix, always in Saint-Eustache.

“We will go to the office of the deputy because during this countryside, Mr. Perron mentioned that he would make poverty his priority during his next mandate. We want to be certain that it will keep its promises”, explained, in a press release, the candidate néo-democrat, specifying to want to make poverty one of the major stakes of this election campaign. “In 2000, 13.974 people lived under the poverty line in our area. That represents many families which find themselves in poor situation”, it added.

The candidate of the NDP pointed out that it already worked with the Café de la Paix, in Saint-Eustache, where it says to be struck to note at which point the young people were touched by poverty. “What was even more afflicting, specifies it, it is to see these young people living in the street, in spite of the fact that our area is considered of middle class, here even in Canada.”

In addition to the elimination of poverty, Francis Chartrand proposes to offer to the workers without employment more occasions to reinstate the labour market. It also suggests removing the tax on the products and services (GST) on the basic commodities for the Canadian families and investing more in the promotion of 1.000 residences to low income in the Lowones.

“A vote for the NDP is not a waste of time and effort. That will make it possible our party to be vigilant vis-a-vis the poverty, it does not matter which represents us in Ottawa”, to conclude the candidate from the NDP in Rivière-des-Mille-Îles.
