Statement by NDP Leader Jack Layton on the passing of Bloc Quebecois MP, Benoit Sauvageau
QUEBEC CITY – “I am extremely saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic death of Benoit Sauvageau, Member of Parliament for Repentigny. Mr. Sauvageau was a true gentleman.
“Mr. Sauvageau was committed to serving Quebecers. His family can take great pride in his many years of public service. His untimely death will undoubtedly be felt deeply not only within his community, but within the community of Parliament Hill as well.
“When I spoke to Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe today, I expressed condolences on behalf of New Democrats and offered sympathies to his family and friends.
