A demonstration of naked cyclists to protest against the automobile traffic - Saturday June 9, 2007

About thirty people expressed naked on their bicycles in the streets of Montreal at the time of World Naked Bike Ride, Saturday, in order to protest against the automobile traffic in urban environment, considered to be excessive by the protesters.
Similar demonstrations were envisaged in other cities of the country, that is to say those of Vancouver, Victoria and Prince George, in British-Colombia-, Toronto, Ottawa and London, in Ontario, and Moncton, in New Brunswick, but also elsewhere in the world, in particular in Paris, London and Madrid just like in the United States, Japan and Mexico.
The participants in the demonstration _ in great majority of the men _ rolled during about thirty minutes in the streets of the district to the mode of the Plateau Mont-Royal.
The news of the event had attracted some 200 people with the starting line of the course, where dozen curious took photographs and filmed vidéos.
The organizer of the event, Eric Lemieux, was charmed presence of spectators and journalists. He estimated that the demonstrators would not have interested anybody if they had not been naked.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) had given the green light to the event. A spokesman explained that the cyclists had the right to take share with the demonstration in as much as they did not behave in a coarse way.
