In a letter published by Le Devoir on July 13th 2010, Phyllis Lambert* and Serge Joyal** ask the Charest Government to reconsider its decision to purchase the building that the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) was going to acquire in downtown Montreal in order to establish a mosque and a community center. They stated that there was nothing in the MAC's project that would threaten the historical and architectural qualities of the building and thus concluded that the Government's decision had the appearance of excluding the Muslim community.

By neglecting to discuss the aspects of the MAC's program as well as the other organisations involved in the project, Ms. Lambert and Mr. Joyal are making those who are opposed to the project look like bigots. As for Point de Bascule, our opposition to the MAC's project has never been motivated by a hostility towards a new Muslim house of worship. From the very beginning, PdeB made it clear that the problem was the political program of the organisation behind the project.

We believe that an opposition to a MAC-led mosque based on an in-depth examination of its political goals and objectives demonstrates a responsible attitude and a commitment towards individual freedom rather than closed-mindedness.

The Facts

The mosque project that was to be implemented inside the historical Grey Nun's building was launched by the Muslim Student Association (MSA) branches of both McGill and Concordia Universities. The MSA was founded in 1963. It was one of the first communication channels that the Muslim Brotherhood established in North America. The affiliation of both Montreal universities to the MSA is explicitly mentioned in their respective constitution available on the Internet.

To manage their mosque project, the McGill and Concordia MSA branches constituted the Montreal Community Center (MCC). Eventually the MCC entrusted the management of the project to the MAC, the Muslim Brotherhood arm operating in English Canada. Présence Musulmane Canada (PMC) headed by Salah Basalamah acts as a counterpart to the MAC in French Canada. The MAC and PMC jointly organised the April 2010 conferences of Tariq Ramadan when he visited Montreal.

On its website, the MAC declares that it "adopts and strives to implement Islam, [...] as understood in its contemporary context by the late Imam, Hassan al-Banna. MAC regards this ideology as the best representation of Islam as delivered by Prophet Muhammad."

A summary of Hassan al-Banna's doctrine is available in the 50 point manifesto that he sent to several political leaders of the Arab world in 1947. The manifesto promotes the abolition of political parties and the establishment of a single party system; the modification of the laws so that they conform to shariah; the multiplication of associations dedicated to promoting the spirit of jihad amongst the youth; the closure of dance halls and the censorship of movies and plays and so forth. In his manifesto, al-Banna stated his intention to impose a unique dress code to the entire population. Faced with the Egyptian authorities' refusal to implement al-Banna'sprogram, his organisation multiplied acts of terror in Egypt, including the assassination of the Prime Minister in 1948.

In one of his essays, On Jihad, al-Banna explains that "it's an obligation for us [Muslims] to fight against them [the infidels] after inviting them [to join Islam], even if they do not fight against us. (Five Tracts, Translated by Charles Wendell, Berkeley, University of California Press, 1978, p. 147)

To inspire his troops, Hassan al-Banna recalled in his essay To What Do We Invite Humanity? that in history many leaders experienced modest beginnings before finally achieving "success and fortune". He mentioned several Muslim warlords who inspired him. Only one was non-Muslim. It was Adolph Hitler. Today, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, frequently reminds us through statements made in the Arab media that the Islamist organization is still a fierce enemy of individual freedoms.

In recent years, al-Qaradawi promoted the killing of apostates from Islam [islamonline.net] and homosexuals [video 5:27], he introduced Hitler as a messenger of Allah who came to punish the Jews [video], he urged Muslims to conquer the West [video], he favoured female genital mutilations and so forth.

When the Islamist militants behind the Montreal downtown mosque project declare that they will "adopt and strive to implement Islam, [...] as understood in its contemporary context by the late Imam, Hassan al-Banna", they are announcing that they will devote their efforts to make these principles triumph.

During the two trials having lead to the conviction in 2008 of several members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood network for financing terrorist activities in the Middle East through the United States, the prosecution presented as evidence an internal memorandum of the organization. A list attached to the main document confirms that the MSA, which coordinates the activities of its McGill and Concordia chapters is indeed part of the North American network of the Brotherhood.

The internal document also clearly mentions the goal pursued by the organisation in North American. The excerpt reads as follows:

"The Ikhwan [the Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is kind of a grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions. [...] It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes."

A Diversified Opposition to the Muslim Brotherhood

If we needed a convincing proof that opposing the Muslim Brotherhood does not equate to the ostracising of Muslims in general, it came from none other than Muslims themselves on the very day that Le Devoir published Phyllis Lambert and Serge Joyal's letter.

In the July 13th edition of La Presse, an article from France-Presse reports that several groups of Jordanian women opposed a bill promoted by the local Muslim Brotherhood branch which seeks to allow the marriage of 15 year old girls while maintaining the minimal age to 18 for boys. The Jordanian women opposed to the bill argue that legalizing the marriage of very young girls equates to legalising rape. Hamman Said, the local Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood leader, replied that "shariah law allows marriage under the age of 18 if the spouses have reached a certain level of maturity." He also added that "disastrous consequences" await women who "adopt the ways of Western education".

It was also by invoking shariah law that in the past the Muslim Brotherhood opposed criminal penalties for fathers who kill their daughers. These reforms were promoted by Queen Rania of Jordan. It is a recognized principle of shariah law [notably in the Umdat al-Salik, Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri, Beltsville, Amana Publications, 1994, pp. 583-584] that a father cannot be punished for the murder of his children. This principle constitutes an endorsement of honour killing. Applying Islam as it was understood by Hassan al-Banna, applying shariah leads to this as well.

Several opponents of the totalitarian ideals of the Muslim Brotherhood are Muslims and former Muslims who have seen firsthand the damage caused by the application of Islamist principles. At Point de Bascule, Muslims like Tarek Fatah and Salim Mansur have helped us understand the subtleties of the Islamist threat.

The Mosques, Our Barracks

In his book Auspices of the Ultimate Victory, Youssef al-Qaradawi explains that the success of his variety of Islam in the West was the result of the groundwork brought about by the Muslim Brotherhood and the contributions in petrodollars by Gulf state billionaires. The mosques used as advance bases for the Muslim Brotherhood in order "to destroy from within the Western civilization" are often built with the financial backing of governments that domestically persecute those who do not share their religious beliefs. It is likely that the Montreal project has benefited from such foreign contributions.

In these circumstances, we must keep in mind that the opening of a mosque controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood in downtown Montreal is part of the program that was laid out by their ally, the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Erdogan who declared a few years back: "The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers..."

The most cunning of racial attacks, one you probably never see.

Well, my comment now.

Saturday evening July 3, me and my wife went to see the fireworks at La Ronde in Montreal. We were at Bellerive Park, along the St. Lawrence River, and the performance was given by Portugal, a 45-minute fireworks show. The crowd was large as 300 000 people at the Park, 200 000 on the Jacques Cartier Bridge.

On the way back we walk on St. Catherine, for at Papineau and Beaudry metro stations, there is an hour wait to enter the subway too many people, of course. So we thought that would do better to join the Berri UQAM station.

In return, Tania I expressed it a craving. She hesitates between the Pizza Pizza, corner St. Catherine and St. Timothy and St. Hubert restaurant, corner St. Catherine and Amherst. We want to sit comfortably, we opt for the second option. We ordered a "hot chicken" each, plus a line of wine. A very good Chardonnay from Argentina, which I do not remember the name unfortunately. Everything is going well so far, and we pay our bill to 23: 45.

Later, she seeks a McDonald's, we later found corner St. Catherine and St. Christopher, to buy a McFlurry, you know, the blizzard at Dairy Queen. It is used by a ... how should we say? A girl, color, black. She served in what can probably deduct the fifth containing the normal, saying that it is the normal serving, plus she said she has stirred.

Me, I almost never go at McDonald's, too busy to go get something to eat at Harvey's restaurant, the Dairy Queen, restaurant 25th at St. Eustache or the concession stand of Deux-Montagnes, but hey, I did not know not even know what was a McFlurry. So I do not know how to treat her: dirty fucker, cursed woman, fucking thief full of shit, fucking bitch, fucking dirty immigrant, not there I'd be racist.

In this McDonald's, there were many blacks and gays, so I had to shut the fuck up, because you know, I go often to the barricades, when I do not jump it. I preferred whining two blocks away, once we would leave the Gay Village, because I do not know what to say in the restaurant. I imagined, these African-Americans turn into cannibals and these gays turn into cannibals gays, just across from the Circus After Hour, making us spit in the ass, Tania and I, we crunching an apple the mouth, singing "Hakuna Matata" and trampling the flag of Quebec.

I do not even silly. That's what happens when you see hordes of wild African Americans, when we know that now, street gangs from the east of Montreal practice voodoo rituals in addition of deviants of religion of origin, which on behalf of their sexual orientation, practice neo-paganism. When I think of all those hordes of Haitians who fled Papa Doc and Baby Doc and have integrated less than 5 years ...

But hey, times change and people too. Therefore, the next day I decided to contact McDonald to get information or to make clarifications on the nature of this incident, willing or unwilling, or lack of productivity to my girlfriend.

I call in late morning. And I speak to the manager of the service in question, explaining that when I was in a restaurant, a girl asked a McFlurry, and the waitress at the counter serves in what can probably deduct the fifth containing the normal saying that it is the normal serving, plus she said she has shaken.

He answers the most amazing thing ever heard at McDonald:

- Ah yes, the damn fucking white trash girl, wah, wah, wah, she made shit and she wanted more, too bad the girl was frustrated. In addition, she made a delay made all the customers.

I replied:

- Because, you see, the damn fucking white trash girl in matter is my wife, fucking tabarnac! To treat my wife as 'white', you're what color?

- Haiti, why?

- Because you've just been busted in the act of racism, anti-white racism but racism is the same. In addition, according to you, there are two races, two colors of people, in Montreal, Quebec and Haiti? To say that I gaved to your country after the earthquake, that I marched against the coup against Jean-Bertrand Aristide, say that I walked for the family of Marcellus François. Don't call me a racist.

- I don't give a fuck, man, it don't prevent you to be a race full of shit, you're never happy, you always want more, more, and more. And you want us to integrate into your culture, when you're unable to see that you live in North America? Fuck you, goddamn Quebec!

- I never said that, I'm talking a proper service with an adequate amount, I will not talk about your roots, you have been racist against my wife.

- Go get it in Laval, your proper service with an adequate amount. You seem shit for me. And you think Canadians and Alouettes are sports, man. Fuck you, man, I am anxious that you go fuck yourself in reserves that we can sterile yourself. You Quebecers will be the only people exterminated in self defense.

- That's the respect you give to your home land?

- I don't give a shit of my home land, I don't give a fuck of borders, "No one is illegal" you know? It does not exist illegal immigrants. Fuck borders. And people who do not deserve to live, I'll kill them!

- Hmmmr hmmmr!

Then comes a moment of silence after I coughed a bit to calm him, and I quote:

- You've just been busted in the act of racism, anti-white racism, but racism is the same for the second time. I'll hang up and I'll call the police.

I contacted the police of the City of Montreal (CMPS), and tell me that I was right to complain. I spoke to two policemen, one from Quebec and one of Haitian descent, who is of Haitian origin advised me not to visit the McDonald's in downtown Montreal, or even Burger King or Buffalo Wings, as he says, the "Negroes" who work there are sometimes racist.

He told me that often the Haitian community make him shame with his gang and I quote again, his "escaped from the container" spitting on the Quebec because we do not walk the streets with 12 gauge and machetes, as Haitians in Montreal is no longer found in their community, like the time when Haitians were rescued from the murderous regime of Papa Doc and Baby Doc.

He also said that I had to hold my ground and do not let me walk around by whatever the ethnic community, for having built the police as well as his family and, in less than a generation, other immigrants can do it is only a matter of will.

He even found a philosophy that I share, it is not Quebecers that should be assimilated to multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is not so bad, but mainly leads to sectarianism and ethnic isolationism. If all immigrants fit to Quebec nationalism with the help of Quebecers, not just ethnic families will experience a better fate, but the people of Quebec will be more appreciated and respected throughout the world. We could all go out a united nation.

The City of Montreal ravaged by the scourge of racism. On the verge of hysterics, the municipality adopted an emergency plan.

Seen on several posters in Montreal:

"Advice to young white couples who are thinking about Montreal having children. Contribute to the fight against racism. Sterilize yourselfs and adopt rather small Chinese girls or Haitian boys. We must at anyway, eliminate the white race, responsible for so much misery on Earth.

Besides with the affirmative action programs in education and employment, your kids, yellow, brown or black will have much better chance in life than a white child ontologically racist and whose ancestors who built Quebec the sweat of their brows were vile and despicable beings, colonizers and responsable of Native American genocide. You do not want your child to bear such a burden of shame and guilt in life!

A message from the City of Montreal, in collaboration with SOS Racisme, the Ministry of Families, the Ministry of Immigration and the Ministry of Education, Sport and Recreation."

Well, I have no picture with me, but believe me when I say, people can testify.

Let's make us a gift in 2010; fuck the City of Montreal outside the province of Quebec, we will be able to breathe easier.

Each year, the same thing. The more we approach the fateful date of December 6, the more masculinist radical groups are excited on the Internet.

They are like vampires who feel dawn the first glimmerings of dawn. They scream, spit, to convulse as if they threw the holy water.

THE FAULT TO FEMINIST

The worst of the strip, the more hysterical, the most worrisome are members of the group L'Après-rupture.

"The major organs begin feminist victimizers motion to mark the 20th anniversary of the Polytechnique tragedy, they wrote this week. Sad recovery based on emotions, melodramatic statements included in chorus by the media who prefer to serious analysis shows, impartial.

"Polytechnic, deplorable recovery by feminist organizations who must maintain their propaganda to ensure the payment of annual profit grants.

"Nobody asks the question: why Marc Lépine posed such a gesture? The answer is very simple. Lepine lived burgeoning feminism that demonizes men ..."

In short, if Lepine showed up at Polytechnique and shot 14 women, it is because of bad feminists.

This message would be laughable if it were not so disgusting ...

HE LEARNED IN THE FOOT

That masculinist groups campaigning to get more grants to help people in distress is one thing.

But does this mean Lépine portray as a poor victim of "feminist propaganda handsomely subsidized with taxpayer money"?

The members of L'Après-rupture did not they make that they shooting themselves in the foot by taking such a speech? They completely discredit their cause?

The solution does not remove money from groups of women: it is to give more groups of men!

As they say, we don't need to undress Ginette to dress Jacques. We just buy clothes for both ...

Instead of constantly shooting each other, and compare their wounds to know what sex is the most messed up, groups of men and women's groups should work TOGETHER to build a more harmonious and less aggressive.

A COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE STRATEGY?

That said, if I do not share the speech paranoid, misogynist and revenge L'Après-rupture, I confess I feel a certain unease in the discourse surrounding the Polytechnique massacre.

Not because I think the use of Poly is a "recovering feminist," as like to say masculinists radicals. But because I am afraid that this strategy is cons-productive.

Let me explain ...

Over the years, Poly has become a sort of symbol of violence against women.

But do you really think the guys who regularly beats his wife in his living room identified with Marc Lépine?

I doubt it. He said: "Lépine is a monster, an extreme case, a madman, a psychotic. It has nothing to do with me ..."

When they compare there life to Lépine, the "ordinary tyrants" are very nice, very accurate ... Real gentlemen.

A BAD SYMBOL

Do not misunderstand me: I'm not saying that we should not remind us remember the tragic memory of Poly.

Instead, I think it's essential. Like it or not, this terrible tragedy is part of our history.

But I think we should not make this event a symbol of everyday violence experienced by battered women. It's too big, too monstrous, too exceptional.

Yesterday I told you the story of the police chief of Windsor who had to publicly apologize to the Muslim community in Ontario because one of its agents had searched the wife of a radical Islamist wanted by the FBI during a police operation.

This column brought me several reactions, including an email from a policeman SPVM.

WHAT "DAMAGE"?

"I have been accused in police ethics for speaking with the wife of a Muslim, told me the agent who wishes to preserve his anonymity.

"The man wanted to talk to me after an intervention that had involved earlier in the day. He phoned the station and asked what my partner and I were going to meet with him.

"It was presented at the time requested, but the man was not present. His wife told us. The lady was hesitant, talkative and somewhat unaware of the situation. We were courteous to her, and we recorded this event in our report.

"A few months later, we received a letter from the Commissioner of Police Ethics accusing me of abusing my power over the woman in question. Although no complaint was made against me and my partner, the police of Montreal still has apologized to the lady for the "damage" caused for this "unfortunate" incident ...

"The worst is that I have never met or consulted about this complaint. However, the police apologized on my behalf because I did my job!"

INTIMIDATION

Every time I tell stories of accommodations, I get emails accusing me of racism and xenophobia.

It's an old trick: we leave the word "racist" when someone dares to criticize the religious extremists in the hope that someone will take his hole and close the mouth.

I have bad news for you, boys: it does not work with me. If it worked, it's been a long time that I should write more, the number of emails I get insulted every day.

In fact, I would say that it has the opposite effect. The more you attack me, the more I want to write on the subject.

I'm not eating meat for eight months, I still kept my head pig.

BAD PUGLIA!

A few days ago, I said I did not understand why the police gave tickets to young people who make the squeegee.

This earned me several emails from people screaming against "that damned lousy who ask for money".

A man wrote me that her son was beaten up by the homeless. I understand his anger. But when I was young, I got beaten up by some Englishmen. Does it mean that all Englishmen are savages? Of course not.

Just as Muslims are not all Islamists. Remember the documentary of Paul Arcand, Les voleurs d'enfance? Arcand was walking in a park frequented by homeless and asked the young people present who were awarded by host families.

The vast majority raised their hands.

Contrary to what some people think, young people living on the street are not rich kids who are poor.

These are often young skinned alive. And they should be disgusted because they ask for money?

Tomorrow evening the citizens of Montreal will be treated to a spectacle of Islamist double-talk that will leave them dazzled. Tariq Ramadan will be speaking to a gathering at the University of Montreal.

This time the voice of Islamism will not be the regular run-of-the-mill shrieks by sheikhs, but delivered by a man with a mellow disarming smile. The guttural accent we have come to associate with angry mullahs of the Middle East will be replaced by milky English delivered with a French accent.

But make no mistake. The message of Tariq Ramadan will remain the same. The crudeness will be replaced by sophistication; the clumsiness by finesse. And Canadians, hungry for some sense of movement towards moderation in the world of Islam, will most probably lap it all up.So who is Tariq Ramadan?

My first encounter with him was in a TVO discussion about Sharia Law in Canada in 2005.

I had heard Tariq Ramadan had spoken against the idea of introducing Sharia Law in Canada. I was excited. The grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt would have the maturity and understanding to take a brave stand when the rest of the Islamist establishment was hell-bent on making sure sharia law found a foothold in North America.

However, my hopes were dashed when the live show went on air. Tariq Ramadan made it very clear. He was not opposed to sharia law coming to Canada; he just didn't think it was the right time to introduce it. In his words, Muslims were displaying a "lack of creativity". He suggested that rather than ask openly for sharia law, Islamists should have sneaked it in through the existing legal framework.

Taken aback, I was reminded of the Islamist doctrine of Taqiyaa, a dissimulation methodology employed to hide one's true agenda, which recommends appearing harmless to one's adversary with the objective of having them lower their guard.After the TV show, I did some research on Tariq Ramadan's position on Sharia law. In the issue of Egypt Today of October 2004, he wrote:

"The Muslims in Canada's battle to set up shariah courts to settle domestic disputes is another example of lack of creativity. Within the normative law in Canada, they have huge latitude for Muslims to propose an Islamic contract. These courts are not necessary; all they do is stress the fact that Muslims have specific laws and for the time being this is not how we want to be perceived. (emphasis mine). We need to show that our way of thinking is universal, that we can live with the law and there is no contradiction."

He continued:

"The term shariah in itself is laden with negative connotations in the Western mind. There is no need to stress that."

If I needed an example of doublespeak and dissimulation, I had found it.

On Thursday, the Muslim Canadian Congress and the Montreal-based Point de Basqule took out a full page advertisement in Le Devoir welcoming Ramadan to Quebec and Canada, but exposing the hidden agenda that has mesmerized so many naïve Westerners.

Titled, "Greetings to You, Oh My Brother!", Point de Bascule and the MCC described Ramadan as an Islamist ideologue who pretends to be a moderate, but acts otherwise. This was best reflected in his refusal to outrightly condemn the practice of stoning women. He has asked for a ‘moratorium' on such barbaric punishments.

Tariq Ramadan's conference on Friday evening is organized by a group of his disciples, but has the backing of many on the left as well as such partners as the l'Institut du Nouveau Monde and the Quebec Ministry of Immigration and Cultural Communities.

Ramadan reflects the new sophisticated arm of the worldwide Islamist movement, which sees the West as the right place to wage a cultural and intellectual jihad. It preys on Muslim youth who are tired of the old guard; men in beards and long frocks, frothing as they denounce the evil West. The new technique is to undermine the West from within, like parasites and termites, with the host society never knowing what hit it, until it is too late. UK is one example.

Those dazzled by the charm of the new Islamists need to recognize that Tariq Ramadan in 2003 praised a book written by Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, the radical Islamist sheik based in Qatar; the man who justified suicide bombing. Ramadan hosts a weekly show on the Iranian government's PressTV network. He has never dissociated himself from the Iranian regime, not even during the repression of protesters who were opposed to the "re- election" of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. As young Muslim men and women were being beaten up and tortured by the Iranian regime, Ramadan was quite happy to give the Iranian ayatollahs a pretty face.

I close with the words of French Muslim journalist Mohamed Sifaoui: "Tariq Ramadan is an Islamist. He is among those who want political Islam, the European version of the Muslim Brotherhood, to infiltrate institutions, society, associations, parties, the media and so on, in order to pressure these same societies, to "reform" them from inside, to Islamize them or re-Islamize them, the better to pervert them, to progressively bring them to accept a medieval vision of the Muslim religion."

Brother Tariq, your father Said Ramadan came to my birthplace Pakistan in 1948 as a Muslim Brotherhood emissary and was instrumental in turning a secular Muslim country into a hotbed of Islamic extremism. I will not let the son of Said Ramadan come to my adopted home Canada and do the same, without a fight. Your Islamist father ruined my birthplace; I will not let you ruin the place where I will die.

Montreal's mayoralty race is heating up as the November 1 voting day swiftly approaches. Former separatist militant Louise Harel of the Vision Montréal party, thought to be the front runner over somewhat lacklustre federalist incumbent Gérald Tremblay, is now battling her way back after being forced to jettison her closest collaborator, Benoit Labonté, when credible allegations of Labonté's involvement in contract-linked corruption surfaced last weekend.

Harel should have more than Labonté's dubious character to contend with in the public forum. She should be explaining why a known supporter of Islamist militancy is running for office under her aegis. A certain Najat Boughaba is a candidate for Vision Montreal in the riding of St Léonard West. I met Boughaba two years ago at a fund-raising dinner she organized for the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC), where the keynote speaker, notorious Taliban apologist, journalist Yvonne Ridley, spoke glowingly of Hizbollah ("I wish I had the [Hizbollah] flag with me tonight"), officially designated in Canada as a terrorist organization. Boughaba does not deny her deep involvement with the openly Islamist CIC (from which she now discretely distances herself). CIC, readers will remember, was the prime mover in the attempt to sabotage free speech via Human Rights Commission complaints against journalists Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn.

On her website Boughaba claims to adhere to Quebec values of "peace, liberty and equality," but many associations on Boughaba's c.v. contradict such facile lip service to democratic values. For example, Boughaba was an active member of the Centre Communautaire Musulman de Montréal (CCMM). In 2006, following the arrest of 17 alleged terrorists in Toronto (some of them found guilty), Boughaba, under the name of Najad Moustapha, took part in a press conference organized by the CCMM, at which they read a fatwa urging the media to transmit Islam's message of peace drawn up by their spiritual guide, Iraqi ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani who, a few months prior to the conference, had announced on his website that all homosexuals, both male and female, should be executed "in the worst possible manner." (Curiously, the fatwa against male homosexuals was removed from the site, but not the fatwa against females; in any case, the ayatollah has never revoked his condemnation of either.) Moreover, according to Islamist watchdog www.pointdebasculecanada.ca, the CCMM published on its own website a warning to the effect that girls who did not wear the hijab ran the risk of being raped and having "illegitimate children."

Boughaba was also the editor in chief of a Montreal newspaper, Sada Almashrek (Echo of the Orient). This newspaper celebrates the teachings of theocratic totalitarian Ayatollah Khomeini, father of the Iranian Islamist revolution, and regularly publishes paeans to Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Hizbollah. According to www.pointdebasculecanada.ca, a text published under Boughaba's editorial aegis accused Liberal Party deputy Fatima Houda-Pépin, a democratic Muslim, of promoting hatred of Muslims.

Most worrying of all though, it was on Boughaba's editorial watch that a poem was published in her newspaper that attacks the principle of freedom of expression, and which labels "unveiled" heritage Quebec women as "whores." Here is the incriminating excerpt (my translation): "Who gave you the right to speak/to bark like the dogs in the streets, to insult/ to judge and to utter insanities and curses/ this is not freedom of expression/ so stop speaking of democracy/ if you conduct yourself like a tyrant...My hijab is not a handkerchief/ it is my skin/ my modesty, my dignity, my respect/ And if you, old-stock immigrant [woman]/ if you have neither faith nor law/ and you have spent your soiled youth/ passing from one male body to another/ that at least is not the case for me."

You don't need to be a literary critic to deconstruct the contempt for ethnic québécois this poem exudes. And yet the editor who published it - Boughaba - was chosen to go to Hérouxville shortly thereafter to speak about Islamic values and explain to alegedly xenophobic québécois how to get along with the "Other." In an ironic aside, this poem was published days before the famous 2007 Hérouxville lifestyle code was released, yet the "poet," Haydar Moussa, several times publicly declared that the poem had been written "in reaction to" the code, a demonstrable impossibility. And yet the same Haydar Moussa was invited to be a member of the Hérouxville delegation.

To say that Louise Harel did not do her due diligence on Boughaba - or alternatively did, but was so eager to attract a token Muslim to her team as a showcase for her multicultural credentials that she didn't care what it revealed - is the understatement of the year. It goes to show once again that when a hijab goes on one politician's head, objectivity, judgment and democratic principles fall out of all the politicians' heads around it. Kamal Meddane today became the youngest criminal in Quebec, and one of the youngest in Canada to be declared a dangerous offender by a judge, an exceptional sentence, the heaviest in the Criminal Code.

Judge Patrice Hurtubise has made the decision this afternoon in the Youth Division of Montreal. Kamal Meddane was 14 when he committed his first sexual assault. At 16, he relapsed, this time with great violence. At that age he refused an initial therapy for sex offenders. He has refused three in total.

At 17, while on probation followed, he made three new victims. Most of its victims are teenagers from 13 years to fragile tunes chosen at random from a bus or a subway station. He forced one of them watching him masturbate. He has violated another without a condom.

In these last three cases, he pleaded not guilty. After trial, the judge Hurtubise has been convicted of any assault. The Crown, represented by Sylvie Lemieux, then asked the judge to impose an adult sentence, what the judge has consented. This is why in the media he can be identified, even if he committed his crimes while he was still a teenager.

Judge Hurtubise has ordered the imprisonment of Meddane indefinitely. He will serve at least seven years in prison and will be evaluated every two years to determine if he is fit to go out or not.

The young man has a "deviant sexual sadist type," according to psychiatrist Louis Morissette was evaluated at the request of the Crown. He uses violence and humiliation for assaulting teenage and pubescent female. Meddane has no mental illness or drug problem or alcohol. The young man was a dunce at school and refused all approaches proposed for finding a job. It has a "high opinion of himself" and lack of empathy, according to the doctor.

Meddane had been held since his arrest in April 2007. He is awaiting trial in another sexual assault case before an adult court this time. His mother and brother were in the courtroom this afternoon, and one of his victims. His mother collapsed in tears at the sentencing.

Reasonable accommodations begin even before conception to the McGill University Health Center. To accommodate Muslims, Jews and even Catholics recite prayers, and we allow the presence of an observer during the Jewish fertility treatments.

"These treatments should be accessible to all religions and all communities," said Dr. Hananel Holzer, fertility specialist at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

To ensure the support of Orthodox Jewish communities, it tolerates the presence of an observer trained to meet the precepts associated with that religion. In all, they are eight to have completed the training given by Rabbi Weiss, head of the Council of the Jewish community in Montreal.

Approximately one to two requests for accommodation were made each week.

Incubators reserved for Jews

"In Judaism, Halachah requires that certain conditions are met, on many aspects of life. If more than familiar with the concept of kosher foods, not all are aware that the Jewish laws also outline clear guidelines in terms of reproduction, "says Dr. Hozler.

Two incubators for the conservation of embryos are also kept under lock and key and a PIN is required to open them. They may not be in the presence of the representative Jew.

Dr. Hozler, who has practiced in Israel, imported by that way. The accommodations, however, apply to all communities.

Prayer for Muslims

Thus, for Muslims, recite a prayer at the time of insemination in the woman's uterus. It also tries to ensure that this is a woman who makes the treatment of in vitro fertilization, except if no specialist is present.

Although the majority of patients who require accommodations are Jews and Muslims, Dr Hozler had requests for a Catholic woman. The latter was reluctant, since the practice of freezing eggs is not permitted in Italy, his country of origin. It was therefore a different process for her.

Only restriction for Dr. Hozler: "The application should not impede medical treatment in any way," he says. Have we seen a difference in the success of treatment? "Good question, we should study it, but people feel more confident."

Through this initiative, we want to increase the number of patients who have access to fertility treatments, which will be reimbursed by the government.

Montreal proclaiming "zone free of racism," the mayor Gérald Tremblay invites citizens to fight against this scourge by signing a register, hoping to collect 100 000 signatures. How to be against? However, this laudable initiative can be used to identify three trends - and a little disturbing - that occur in our society.

First, make things more difficult, so it remains only to say. This is the first trend: the word is increasingly replacing the gesture.

The classic example is the "act to fight against poverty and social exclusion", adopted by the National Assembly in 2002. It has created an observatory of poverty, an advisory committee on poverty, a requirement to write reports, opinions, recommendations and strategies on poverty ... Why? Because, in fact, fighting poverty is difficult to eliminate completely is impossible. Hence the extraordinary number of words that poverty generates, without effects on reality.

This is the second trend: the misuse of words, sometimes to misinterpretation.

Thus, in the register of Mayor Tremblay (who, we hope anyway, burdened with the signatures), it would be fair to note a fact without being free from sin, the Montreal-probably among the least racist in the world .

This is already a zone almost free.
